Italian Eatery Gets Third Anniversary Boost By Winning A Logs Direct ‘Woody’

An Italian restaurant situated just a stone’s throw from Windsor Castle has marked its third anniversary by becoming the latest eatery in the country to scoop a unique Logs Direct ‘Woody Award’, which rewards chefs nationwide who cook delicious food in a wood-fired oven.

Sebastian’s Italian, on Goswell Hill - the only Italian restaurant in Windsor to boast a real wood-fired oven - has walked away with Logs Direct’s ‘Woody’ for October 2016. The restaurant offers a wide range of traditional Italian cuisine, with a menu that features regional and monthly specials.

Pizza, fish dishes and regional specialities are all cooked the wood-fired way, giving them an authentic Italian taste and aroma – just what the Woody Award judges are looking for each month.

Since opening in October 2013, Sebastian’s has received rave reviews from its customers, with one Tripadvisor reviewer proclaiming the restaurant to be “no doubt by far the best Italian in Windsor”.

Sergio said: “We really appreciate being presented with this award. Every accolade that we can receive is a real help. Going forward, we want to keep the quality that we have achieved so far and also match new dishes, from different regions, with new wines, to add to our diners’ experience.

“I would encourage every wood-fired eatery to enter the ‘Woody Awards’. We will be putting our flame-shaped trophy in the kitchen next to the oven.”

Sebastian’s uses Logs Direct’s first-class, kiln-dried wood, with its consistent quality and moisture content of less than 20 per cent. Having log lengths that are consistently sized allows the chefs to plan how much wood is needed and helps to manage the fuel budget.

The Logs Direct team offers regular and in-depth support to provide Sebastian’s, and all restaurants using Logs Direct, full peace of mind.

Sergio says that Sebastian’s initially decided to fit a wood-fired oven because it allowed them to genuinely replicate real Italian pizza. They chose Logs Direct as their wood provider because the company is known for being a reliable supplier, with a quality product.

“The Logs Direct kiln-dried logs are superb, as they produce the correct temperature and burn time on every use,” Sergio explains.

“It’s helped us as a business because we know that we have quality logs that get to the required temperature quickly. Logs Direct provide a fantastic service.”

Logs Direct director, Stephen Talbot, says: “It is a pleasure to award this month’s Woody to Sebastian’s. The restaurant’s reputation stands apart and they are an eatery that appreciates the important role of wood in the cooking process and why it pays to choose logs that maintain the required temperature in the oven, to ensure culinary excellence and consistent cooking times. Sebastian’s is a very worthy winner.
