Three fuels for spring

Across Britain, the first delicate clusters of blossom have appeared on the trees and the bitter chill of the winter months has begun to abate. March has arrived and so has spring. It is the season of renewal and rebirth in which animals come out of hibernation and formerly-skeletal trees return to life. It is also the time of year when the weather loses its harshness and becomes warmer and more pleasant. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t need any fuel during this season. The weather may be comparatively clement in spring, but you can’t abandon your fireplace and fuel reserves completely. In fact, there are three types of fuel that we believe are particularly well-suited to this time of year.

1. Seasoned firewood

Always good to keep a stock of fuel for your fire, even in Spring. Always good to keep a stock of fuel for your fire, even in Spring.

In general, spring is a warm, pleasant season, but it still has cold snaps and short bursts of cool weather. Ergo, you still need to keep a stock of fuel for your fire. Of course, you probably don’t want to invest in a type of fuel that produces a very high level of heat (such as coal or eco logs). After all, it’s not winter any more: you’re combating chilliness, not freezing cold. We recommend seasoned firewood. It produces enough thermal energy to help you cope with spring’s cold snaps without becoming excessively hot. It also has a lovely, natural aroma which suits the season perfectly.

2. Charcoal

Barbecues are great for warm spring evenings. Barbecues are great for warm spring evenings.

This is the perfect time to host a barbecue - the spring landscape is beautiful and the weather is ideal. Of course, a great barbecue requires great fuel. Charcoal is that fuel. When used properly, it can barbecue food to perfection and imbue it with a charming, smoky flavour. If you want to hold a barbecue during spring, we suggest you invest in charcoal now.

3. Chiminea fuel

If you are lucky enough to own a chiminea, get some fuel and start cooking! If you are lucky enough to own a chiminea, get some fuel and start cooking!

Spring isn’t just a great time of year for barbecues, the season’s clement weather gives you a great opportunity to experiment with more advanced forms of outdoor cooking. If you’re lucky enough to own a chiminea that you can cook with, we suggest buying fuel for it immediately.
